Senior Aquatic EcologistMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Chris, and I am Burnside’s Aquatic Ecology Team Lead, responsible for project management, report review, permitting for various government agencies, impact assessments, environmental and construction monitoring, aquatic life salvage, aquatic assessment, and the preparation of technical reports based on project requirements.
I have over 23 years of related experience, having completed a broad range of projects throughout Canada and overseas, including Environmental Assessments, habitat restoration, natural channel design, mitigation development, hydrology, and hydrogeology. I have an extensive understanding of the Fisheries Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Species at Risk Act as they pertain to the protection of aquatic and terrestrial Species at Risk and critical habitat.
Additionally, I have facilitated the creation, design, testing, regulatory acknowledgement, Trademark and Patent Pending of Burnside’s Barefoot Box Culvert™, a unique pre-cast option for culverts that can improve existing conditions for aquatic life. More details on this product and how it can help your project can be found here.
My Interests and Hobbies
From a young age, I have been obsessed with the aquatic environment, spending countless hours around creeks, rivers, lakes and oceans. This desire to understand the aquatic environment, how it relates to projects, and ways to mitigate impacts upon it has led me to my desired career at Burnside. I am an avid angler and outdoorsman who also enjoys a variety of outdoor sports including mountain biking, skiing, camping and travel. I have been fortunate to represent Canada in international fly fishing competitions and was awarded the first medal in international competition at the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championships in New Zealand, an event in which Burnside graciously supported my participation.
I truly love what I do, and I believe that is reflected in the dedication to my work and the clients whom I support on my projects.
