Doug Keenie, P.Eng.
Executive Vice President, Public SectorMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Doug, and I am Burnside’s Executive Vice President in charge of the GTA West Public Sector, focusing on the growth of our municipal business within the Regions of Peel, Halton, Waterloo, and Niagara along with the Cities of Toronto and Hamilton and other points around the Golden Horseshoe.
I joined Burnside in 1999, bringing with me a wealth of municipal experience from my previous work with two GTA Regional Municipalities. With over 30 years of experience on projects throughout the GTA, I have extensive first-hand experience on municipal infrastructure projects involving Municipal Class Environmental Assessments, transportation and transit infrastructure, water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.
I am responsible for the delivery of a diverse range of public sector projects, overseeing our transit, water-wastewater, linear municipal infrastructure, and environmental planning and assessment teams. I participate in projects from the development stage through to implementation as an Advisor, Project Director, Project Manager, or Quality Assurance Lead.
My passion is building relationships and supporting others to reach their goals. I enjoy working closely with my clients and teams in a collaborative and progressive work environment.
My Interests and Hobbies
Beyond the office, I contribute my energy and experience to the municipal public sector as a Director for the Ontario Public Works Association. I also served for several years as a Director and then President for Cancer Assistance Services of Halton Hills.
Outside of work, I enjoy sports and activities with my family. While I have enjoyed playing hockey, soccer, and squash for many years, I also enjoyed giving back to my community through coaching my kids in minor league sports. I also look forward to weekend and vacation camping trips with my family and friends each summer, enjoying the natural beauty of Ontario’s Provincial Parks. Taking in live music when the opportunity presents itself is another passion of mine.
