Dwight Smikle, P.Geo.
Senior HydrogeologistMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Dwight, and I am a Senior Hydrogeologist at Burnside with over 30 years of experience in the water resources sector, providing hydrogeology services for both private and public sector clients. My experience includes groundwater exploration, well design and installation, groundwater management and source protection.
Over the past 10 years, my work has focused on land development impacts and mitigation, including dewatering assessments, Permits to Take Water | Environmental Activity and Sector Registry, and water balance assessments.
Through the years, I have participated in aquifer protection and source protection initiatives, and I am a trained Risk Management Official under the Ontario Clean Water Act. My experience in groundwater protection also includes the completion of a comprehensive review of the groundwater protection and land use zoning system on the island of Barbados.
Prior to joining Burnside, I was the Chief Hydrogeologist for the Government of Jamaica, and this experience has given me a firm understanding the regulatory environment and agency requirements in Ontario. With this overseas experience, I continue to be involved with international projects where hydrogeological expertise is required.
My Interests and Hobbies
In the community, I am one of the founding Directors of Onside Athletics, a not-for-profit corporation that is aimed at providing opportunities for children to participate in affordable sports programs. Working with churches, Onside has seen growth from its start in Guelph in 2010, to now offering numerous sports programs in 15 cities across Ontario.
