James Orr, P.Eng.
Senior Vice President, Land DevelopmentMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is James, and I am Burnside’s Senior Vice President, Land Development, with over 18 years of experience on a wide variety of land development projects across all sectors (i.e., residential, industrial, commercial, institutional, and mixed use).
My project experience includes the development of conceptual design and proforma, option assessment and risk analysis, due diligence, detailed grading, servicing, stormwater management, permitting and approvals, implementation, contract administration, and project management.
I have been the Group Engineer for the Hewitt’s Creek Landowner’s Group in Barrie since 2017 – a large secondary plan on the southeast limit of Barrie that was annexed from the Town of Innisfil. In this role, I liaise with the City of Barrie, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, and participating landowners to ensure coordinated development, and manage the delivery of capital infrastructure projects to support the build-out of the secondary plan.
I have worked with many major GTA developers and home builders as a Project Manager for civil design and construction, leading the design and project delivery teams as prime consultant. I particularly enjoy working through challenging issues, leading informal mediations to achieve desirable outcomes, and seeking solutions that are sound and logical, that might challenge the status quo. My strength is in leading teams and projects in an advisory and | or project management role to achieve key scheduling milestones and deliver a successful project.
My Interests and Hobbies
When not in the office, I am an avid trail and road runner, and enjoy spending my free time on a gravel or mountain bike, on any type of skis, on Georgian Bay doing any type of wind sport, and generally spending time outside with my family and friends.
