My Role and Responsibilities

My name is Matthew and I have worked at Burnside for over 20 years as a GIS Specialist, Software Developer, and Project Manager in the GIS and Asset Management group. As a GIS Specialist, I have gained experience in GIS mapping and data management on many projects ranging from simple site plans to complex groundwater modelling studies. Using various software languages, I have worked on application development projects to solve problems and develop solutions for internal and external clients.

For example, to support our Burnside Mobile application clients, I programmed an archiving tool to archive, export, and restore data from Esri’s ArcGIS Online platform. To further support our Burnside Mobile clients, I act as Project Manager and I provide technical support, help with implementations, and run training sessions for new clients. To support our Hydrogeology group, I built a water level management system to process and store the millions of water level records we download from automated loggers each year.

My Interests and Hobbies

In early 2022, I received my ArcGIS Developer Foundation certification from Esri, Inc.

In my spare time, I like to play golf and to spend time with my family camping in our trailer at our favorite parks across Ontario.
