Matthew (Matt) Paznar, P.Eng., EP
Vice President, Engineering Services | Senior Project Manager | Senior Project EngineerMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Matt, and I am Burnside’s | Neegan Burnside Ltd.’s Vice President, Engineering Services and a Senior Project Manager and Engineer with experience in design, project management, tender preparation, and contract administration on a wide variety of civil and environmental engineering projects. I am currently one of the senior leaders of both the Water and Wastewater team that primarily services our municipal and private clients, and of Neegan Burnside Ltd., which provides consulting services to our Indigenous clients across Canada. I am a designated Consulting Engineer in Ontario and a responsible member of our firm in the provinces and territories where I am licensed.
I originally joined Burnside | Neegan Burnside as a co-op student and spent all six co-op terms with these companies, given the level of learning and satisfaction that I enjoyed. After completing my degree in 2005, I started my career here with the firm where I have had the opportunity to be a part of many successful projects throughout Canada and beyond. A memorable highlight was the opportunity to work on a large water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution project in Mozambique where I was able to spend several months in the field.
During my career thus far, I have completed assessments of and | or improvement designs for over 220 water treatment, wastewater treatment, and landfill facilities for both Indigenous communities and municipalities throughout Canada. Through my experience with many Indigenous communities, I have developed a thorough understanding of the Indigenous Services Canada Level of Service Standards, the Protocol for Centralized Water and Wastewater Systems in First Nation Communities, the Design Guidelines for First Nation Water Works, the Protocol for Decentralized Water and Wastewater Systems in First Nation Communities, the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality, the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, and the various Acts, regulations and guidelines of drinking water, wastewater, water resources, solid waste management, and roads in the provinces in which I am licensed. I continually share this knowledge through mentorship with various staff members who assist me with my projects.
My Interests and Hobbies
I am member of the Ontario Water & Wastewater Association (part of the American Water & Wastewater Association), the Water Environment Association of Ontario (part of the Water Environment Federation), the Canadian Environmental Certification and Approvals Board, and a licensed professional over six provinces | territories.
When I am not assisting clients with their needs or designing new infrastructure, I like to take time to go hiking out west and spend time with family and friends. I also like to work on rebuilding classic cars or spend time woodworking.
