Steven Roorda, P.Eng.
Vice President, Land DevelopmentMy Role and Responsibilities
My name is Steven, and I am Burnside’s Vice President, Land Development, with a focus on residential land development. The focus of my 30+ years of work has been in southwestern Ontario, from Mississauga to London and Niagara Falls to Owen Sound. Typically, the projects have become considerably more complex and much more difficult to work through the process. I have met this challenge by assembling and working with large project teams to successfully address the issues, obtain approval and ultimately complete construction.
We have continuing projects with clients like Losani, Mattamy, Geranium Homes, Fieldgate, Sorbara, among others. One interesting project has been the redevelopment of the Fifth Wheel Truck stop in Grimsby for Losani Homes, which will ultimately become an iconic development of four towers of curvilinear form that will integrate Lake Ontario shoreline protection issues, channel realignment and naturalization, and approvals from the province, Niagara Region, and the Town of Grimsby.
My knowledge of the industry and the process, along with my amazing team of engineers, scientists, and technologists, has been beneficial for the successful development of many thousands of lots across Southwestern Ontario.
My Interests and Hobbies
I like to give back to my community in my spare time. I have been on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity for many years, serving several different roles. Most notably, I am currently Board Chair for Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario. We currently have three affordable condominium projects, with a total of almost 100 units in the Brantford and London area. In addition, we operate eight ReStores and build eight to 10 single family homes each year. We also work closely with various First Nations communities, constructing a few homes a year on their reserves.
