Since 1970, Burnside has been working to solve problems communities face through the provision of engineering and environmental solutions. We not only provide technical services but also help our clients formulate concepts and turn them into reality. We are in the business of building neighbourhoods, strengthening communities, and adding value to society.
We Provide a Diversity of Services
Burnside has been providing consulting services to various communities for over 50 years. What started as a firm that focused on classic civil engineering has grown to become a diverse firm with expertise in core service areas including including water and wastewater, transportation planning and design, transit, land development, development engineering, municipal drainage and peer review, buildings, environmental planning and ecology, GIS, hydrogeology, landscape architecture, solid waste, stormwater management, structures, asset management and air and noise assessments. We have grown both technically and geographically to allow us to address a full range of infrastructure projects, from typical reconstruction works to those that include large and complex systems, requiring a multi-disciplinary team approach.
For our municipal clients, we have also developed Burnside Mobile, a GIS-based platform that helps address asset management needs.
Facilitating Growth
The communities in which we are based are thriving. Ontario’s growth outlook is robust with the population projected to increase to over 21 million people by 2046. This rapid growth necessitates substantial investments in infrastructure such as water supply systems, transit, roads and bridges. It also means building more neighbourhoods as well as commercial, industrial and institutional facilities.
Burnside has an impressive history, over our widespread geographic footprint, working with clients to provide infrastructure services that support burgeoning neighbourhoods, towns and cities. We work closely with communities from the early planning stages through to design and construction administration to align their goals with the process and deliverables to achieve their desired outcome.

Taking Care of our Environment
For over 50 years we have helped clients find solutions that meet their long-term needs, while also nurturing the environmental health of the community. This includes providing expertise in areas such as protecting groundwater and surface water resources, protection of Species at Risk, minimizing the impacts from contaminated sites, ecological restoration of impacted sites, facilitating active transportation and low impact development, to name a few. We help clients secure environmental permits and ultimately achieve their sustainability goals.
